Step into a blissful retreat at The Persian Man, a delightful café located in Thunder Bay, ON, where the aroma of freshly baked goods mingles with the sweet symphony of local culture. Nestled at 400 Balmoral St, this charming spot triumphs in delivering the beloved Thunder Bay Persian doughnuts that locals rave about.

From the moment you enter, you’ll be enveloped by a warm, inviting atmosphere punctuated by the tantalizing scents of cinnamon and sweet icing wafting through the air. The café is designed for comfort, making it the perfect place to sit back and savor each bite. The friendly staff aims to make your experience memorable; however, there have been varying reports on the customer service, so approach with an open mind.

At The Persian Man, the highlight of the menu is undoubtedly the Persian doughnuts. Each one is a delightful creation, characterized by a soft, bready texture, a hint of cinnamon spicing, and a light icing that adds just the right amount of sweetness. As krispy1121 enthusiastically shared, “the icing wasn’t too sweet… exactly how a Persian is supposed to taste.” Others, like Mark, recommend elevating your experience by cutting the Persian in half and grilling it in a pan with butter—an indulgent twist that’ll leave you rethinking your life choices.

The menu offers a range of flavors, including the classic original Persian and an array of delightful berry options. It’s worth noting that if you’re seeking a dozen to take with you, it’s best to pre-order, as many customers suggest, ensuring you don’t miss out on these sweet treasures. The prices are notably reasonable, making it easy to enjoy a treat without breaking the bank, as exemplified by jonathan yacyk, who praised the “super cheap” and delicious icing that layered the doughnut.

Customers are raving, but experiences may vary. While Mahjabeen Alam wasn’t thrilled with the customer service, the consensus on the quality of the pastries remains high. Many travelers and locals agree that no visit to Thunder Bay is complete without sampling the offerings from The Persian Man. Don’t miss your chance to dive into this beloved local tradition; whether you find yourself seeking a sweet snack, a quick coffee break, or a delectable treat to bring home, The Persian Man promises to deliver a memorable taste of Thunder Bay culinary heritage.

The Persian is great. It’s amazing how a simple looking donut tastes so delicious! However, the customer service was awful. The person helping us was rude. We asked a question and instead of answering it properly or nicely she created confusion. Then she went on to raise her voice and be rude about it. When we ordered the donuts she seemed uninterested to help and was not happy about the order. Maybe she was having a bad day and these are tough times. However, other reviews seem to share the same sentiment about their customer service. So maybe it’s not a one off experience.

I wanted my family member to try a Persian since I have had many over the years. They had a few different flavors to choose from including the original, blueberry, and another berry option. We went with the original and the blueberry. As you can see from the photos, this batch looked a little light on the icing, which took away from the overall experience compared to what I remember. The blueberry was not very good and I would not order it again, but the original tasted the way it should. If there had been a bit more icing on top, it would have been better. Overall, Persian's are not quite as hyped as I remembered. These days I think there are other desserts I would reach for first instead.

The thing I miss most about living in Thunder Bay is persians (other than family, of course). I learned that if you wantto order a dozen to travel with, you should order them the day before. I lucked out and they had some in the freezer, but you need to keep them frozen because they don't re-freeze well. We had to rush them back to my mom's place to get them in the freezer. It'll be worth it though, when I bring them home to Saskatoon!

You just can’t pass through Thunder Bay without trying a Persian before you leave. Not just any old Persian. A Persian Man Persian. How many times can I say the word Persian in this review? Let’s find out shall we. The real game changer is when you cut the Persian in half and grill those bad boys in a pan with butter. That right there will have you rethinking your life and everything you’ve ever know. I have to be careful when promoting this heavenly pastry, because people who reside in Thunder Bay will hype Persians up to such unattainable heights. You end up having a first timer taking their first bite as you awkwardly stare back at them, waiting, watching, analyzing their facial expressions as they chew. All in the hopes of seeing some life altering reaction that generally ends with the first timer saying. “Yeah, that’s pretty good. I was almost expecting it to improve my marriage by the way you described it to me.” I think we should under sell it to the first timers and have the Persian speak for itself. And to those who haven’t been to Thunder Bay, and may be a bit confused with this review. The Persian Man sells a pastry called a Persian. They are not selling the people that reside in Iran and Pakistan. I promise. Stop on in and get a coffee with some lunch and don't you dare forget the Persian. If you made it through reading this review in it’s entirety, and you’re keeping score. That was 12 Persians in this review. Why not go buy a dozen?

Had to try the Thunder Bay Persian, and hollands was closed so we came here. Overall I’d say the Persian was okay, but nothing mind blowing. I’ve had better baked goods but that’s likely not due to the Persian Man at all. Prices were very reasonable and the other bakery items like cannolis etc were solid.

This is a smaller newer location. They get their persian doughnuts from the main store on Tungsten where they are all made. These guys also close earlier.

We’ve heard lots about the Persians so we stopped in to buy some. The staff was quite friendly and quick. We bought 6 Persian doughnuts for $8 + tax. They’re bread-y, slightly cinnamon-y and the icing wasn’t too sweet. I think that’s exactly how a Persian is supposed to taste so 2 thumbs up!!!

Was driving through thunder bay and heard the Persian buns here were a must try. Was not disappointed! Super cheap too and delicious. Frosting was light, sweet and airy. I think they whip it to incorporate air to get the texture?? Was amazing
